Afinibot A3S Printer Issues

Hello There,
I finished to assemble the Afinibot A3S printer I bought from you and I’ve been trying to make it work for two days with no luck. The printer turns on ok, the display is ok, but I can’t make the heated bed and the extruder to heat up, all the motors for all axis work well also and when I send the command of preheat the fan turns on but the heaters don’t. I’ve checked all the wiring and they seem fine. The temperature sensors seem both ok. I tried to upgrade the firmware to see if this fixes the problem but I can’t make it work with the AVR tool, I followed the instructions on the pdf and I always get the not in sync: resp=0x00 message. I made sure that the com number is the correct and I am using the file “A3S_V2” (I tried the other ones too), I tried to connect to the printer from my computer to see if I can turn on the heated bed and extruder using the repetier software and I get the message “Not start signal detected-forcing start” and I can’t control anything from it. I hope you can help me to fix this issue.

Thanks,

Updating the firmware is something you shouldn’t do unless you know what you are doing.
You can brick your board and/or load the wrong file for your particular setup.

Have you installed the drivers and followed the user manual regarding the setup with RepetierHost ?

I’ve installed the RepetierHost, I read the manual and I don’t have any specific driver for this printer, if I need one I don’t know where to get it.

Hello,
I finally could connect to the printer from my computer, I installed the driver and now is working but I still have the problem of the heating of the bed and extruder. In the repetier program I got the following message
< 6:57:02 PM: Other:: temp sensor defect marked defect
< 6:57:02 PM: heated bed: working
< 6:57:02 PM: Error:Printer set into dry run mode until restart!
< 6:57:02 PM: Disabling all heaters due to detected sensor defect.

I can’t turn on the extruder heater or the bed because of this, I checked the connections and they are fine. I tried to swap the sensor of the bed and extruder to see if the problem is from the sensor or the board and the sensors seem ok because I get a temperature reading from the extruder (before and after swapping them) and the temperature reading from the bed is always 24 degrees with no change even when swapping.

Try to reverse the sensor wires.

That could be a couple of things, can you attach some nice picture of your board wiring ?
Also, can you give us the exact file you tried to load as “firmware” ?

All the files for this printer are usually provided by the manufacturer in the SD card.

The firmware file I tried to install is the following: A3S_V2.hex. I didn’t include the extension file as suggested in the instructions.
Please find attached board picture.

One thing you might want to try to just disconnect one temperature sensor and try.
If you have the same error it might be the issue, otherwise try with the other sensor.

Note: Manipulations should be made with the board un-powered.

You might want to do the firmware again, since you were having issues with drivers at first and now they are installed.

Let us know,

I tried to disconnect the sensors before, If I disconnect the sensor it gives me a def message in the display. I connected the faulty sensor (the bed sensor) to the extruder connector and I get good reading, this means that the sensor is working, both temperature sensors give me a good reading when connected to the extruder connector, and bad reading when connected to the bed connector (stays at 24 always with no change).

I tried to install the firmware again and I have the same message of not in sync.

Can you take a print-screen of the error message you get when you flash the firmware ?
Is the board powered when you try to flash it ?

Yes, the board was powered when I tried. I will try again later when I come back to home and take a screenshot.

Thanks,

I tried again to install the firmware with no success. Please find attached the screenshot.

Can you open your windows “Device Manager” and verify the COM port number ?

I did that already, is the right port. Actually if I use the wrong port it gives me a different message.

This error is a common error with “arduino” boards with drivers issues.
We are asking the manufacturer for both of your error (Firmware & RepetierHost) sorry about the delay.

Hello,

I was able to upload the firmware with Xloader software directly to the Arduino Mega board. Everything is working properly now.

Thank you for your help!

This is good news…!

We got some information from Afinibot.
They think the temperature sensor is either broken or connected wrong. Can you try to reverse the cables for the sensor ?

Best regards,

Hello,

As I told you in the last message, everything is working properly after the firmware update, there is no need to do anything else.

Thanks,

Sorry about this, we had a busy day and the manufacturer came back with this answer.
Hope you enjoy your 3d printer
