Afinibot A3 not mounting SD card and not COM1 does not exist

Hi Technical Wizards!

I recently became the owner of a previously loved Afinibot A3 (gift series)

I loaded Repetier onto my laptop and hit the connect button…only to be told
“The port COM1 does not exist”

Naturally, knowing it is probably a loose connection caused by a faulty human, I checked the USB cable, tried different USB ports, played around in the printer settings…all to no avail.

Not to be dissuaded, I loaded some G-code on a micro SD card and put it in the slot…only to work through the printers menus to select SD card and to see the option “mount card” which appears to do nothing.

So…I am guessing my control board has an issue somewhere…OR I have made some silly rookie error.

Would you be able to edumacate me?..Or should I just be buying a new board???

Thanks in advance!!

Hi eChadT,

Have you purchased the Afinibot A3 through RobotShop ? We do not seems to have an order from your email address.

First thing to check would be the COM port number associated to the device in “Device Manager” it is usually not COM1 but some other number.

That sounds great but my computer has not added it as a device and does not even react when I plug in the USB (and the printer is powered up too).
:frowning:

In short, I see no way to send files to the printer to printer

Hi eChadT,

Sorry to ask again, but have you purchased the printer at RobotShop ?
If nothing happen in Device Manager, try to remove the SD card from the controller and re-connect the USB.

I bought the printer used and he referred to your site so i believe he got it from you.

I did as you suggested, even changed USB cables and restarted the computer. All of which I have done before I even tried using the SD card. The most I have gotten from the computer is the two tone sound recognizing that something has been unplugged ad that something has been plugged into a USB port, no other response.

I am out of ideas myself. Unless there are some mystery jumper switches etc, then I am guessing the board is the problem, I know you sell them, I just want to make sure that buying a board will fix the issue, rather than wasting time and money…

Cheers,
Chad

Hi Chad,

You might want to compare both our board and yours before ordering, ours have a connector type for all motors and sensors.
Another test would be to set the board to USB power. There is a jumper with PWR-SEL label and you can set it to USB or VREG so set it to USB for a try.
