Afinibot A3 3D Printer XY scaling problem

Hi. I recently bought this printer from robotshop.

As you can see in the image (attachment) all parts are printed with wrong scale.

The first object was supposed to be a hyperbolic vase and the second object was supposed to be a box. Other thing that is strange are the sharp angles in the hyperbolic vase. So I think it is not simply a problem with scaling but probably a more complicated problem in software or firmware.

I’m using the Repetier Host software with Slic3r from the documentation that was provided.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

We explained the issue you are encountering to the manufacturer.
As soon as we have a reply, we will contact you and let you know what to do.
They can also reply here, directly to you in the post.

Regards,

Thank you. I added a picture that has the X and Y axis drawn in the picture. So when printing a circular shape the top left corner and the bottom right corners will have sharp angles when looking from the front side of the printer. Its quite strange and I don’t know what can cause this. Is there any other software than repetier host and slic3r that I could try with this printer?

Hi,

Did you follow all the settings instructions in the Afinibot how to slice document ? (Also verify if you have the latest Repetier version)
If so, and if you still have the same issue, try to change the Layer height on Repetier to 0.1mm and the Fill density to 10% and the Perimeters speed to 50mm/s.

Hi.
I believe I might know what is causing the issue… I downloaded the zip that you linked from the shop product page. And I read the documentation from there and installed the driver software as recommended in FTDI driver installation.pdf. Now I just noticed that the driver software on the sd card was different. When I try to install the sd card driver it says my driver is up to date… Can I manually uninstall the driver in the windows device manger and try to reinstall?

When I power on the printer it says:
A3S_0_V1.4.5
A3S
Repetier-0.91
Afinibot 3D Printer

Is that correct? I downloaded newwest Repetier-Host V1.6.2 but still getting the same issue.

Hi,

As long as your PC recognize the printer when you plug in the USB cable, the issue you’re encountering shouldn’t come from the FTDI driver version.

]Did you change the settings in Repertier as we suggested in our previous post ? If so, do you still have the same prints shape ?/:m]
]This can also be a nozzle issue, if the nozzle is jammed. If so, please try to clean the nozzle./:m]
]Also, please try to recalibrate the Z axis of the printer./:m]Regards,

I don’t think you understand the issue. The problem is not fill density or layer height or printing speed but the problem is that it is printing the wrong shape. I attached as image a print of the 20mm_box_pillar.stl which came with the sd card. The bottom is supposed to be a square and the top part is supposed to be a circle. But the bottom part comes out as a rectangle and the top comes out similar to the hyperbolic vase image.

I tried (not in the image) 0.1mm layer height and 10% fill density and perimeter speed 50mm/s but those didn’t fix the shape. I have also tried offline printing with the same results.

Hi,

We suggest you to submit a ticket to better help you with this issue. Please, refer to this post when you contact us via the support center.

Hi.

I finally got the printer working. The issue was that in 2 of the linear bearings (like these: robotshop.com/en/makeblock-l … -pair.html) located under the bed, the snap ring on the sides were slightly touching the sliding rods causing the y axis to have too much friction for very small movements. I solved the issue by slightly bending the snap rings with pliers because I couldn’t move them or remove them.

Just thought I would post this here in case someone has a similar issue.

Hi,

We are happy to hear that it works properly. Thank you for posting the solution.
