My son (almost 7 years old) has been fascinated with robots for a couple years and was scheduled for a Robotics summer camp this summer. With the social distancing, camps are likely all cancelled so I’m planning a robotic summer camp at home. He has already been working with Lego Boost, but I have bought him the Ozobot for the camp and a couple Kamigami bots. Before going into the builds with him, I’d like to work on the physics with him and thought a Snap Circuit kit may be good. He has played with the Junior kit a little, but the Light kit and the Motion kit look interesting. I had thought about the Light with the Electromagnet add on, but I like the gearing ratio projects in the motion kit. Those two kits look slightly flashier to a kid than the original kit series, but I am not as familiar with what they have to offer. Does anyone have suggestions about which kits may be the most appealing to a younger aspiring robotics engineer?
Hello @gruswitzf and welcome to the RobotShop community,
It’s great to hear that your son is so interested in robotics at such a young age and even better that you want to encourage this interest. The kits you bought and the ones you mentioned that caught your attention are excellent choices for a young robotics enthusiast.
If it helps, here’s a little products summary that the Snap Circuits manufacturer created. As you can see the LIGHT kit is a Best Seller, perhaps this can serve as an indication of which kits are more attractive to children. However, both options are excellent and the choice will depend on your child’s interest.
I also suggest checking the Elenco Electronics youtube channel and look for the Snap Circuits you are interested in.
And since you mentioned you are interested in creating a robotics camp at home you might want to also check out the following guide:
