Okay, so lets say that someone is building a robot that needs to be able to walk and move his hands and pick stuff up. What kind of actuators would that person need to use?

The kind of actuators really depends on how you want to create the movements required (walking, turning, picking things, etc.) mechanically.

If this is your first time creating a robotic platform, I’d recommend starting small and working step by step on your design.

You can read more about actuators here. Indeed, I suggest reading the entire series. It is a quick read that covers all the basics of robot building.

Feel free to post here if you have more questions / have a better idea of how you will make the robot move. You can definitely also have a quick search online and find plenty of details about what people have done with humanoid robots already, too (and legs, arms, “hands”, etc. specifically).
