Actuator selection

Hi ,

I started working on arduino uno board a couple of weeks back. What I intend to do is to build a robotic arm to perform simple pick and place task. Say weight of the object to be picked is 500 grams. I have carried out the calculations regarding torque requirement of the motor.

I am having a tough time selecting an actuator for this. Since my final purpose is to do dynamic analysis, servo motors are out of question(please correct me if i am worng). What motors will be suitable for this task.

Thanks a lot.

We have a tutorial and tool which take into account the worst case scenario where an arm is horizontal and lifting a heavy load:

Note that the M100RAK can lift 500g at full extension and is servo-based. It’s incredibly good value for reach and capacity and might save you a lot of headache:

Note that servos have a low duty cycle (~25%) so should not be operated for extended periods of time.

Thanks for your reply.

I have used your tool to carry out the calculations.

However my concern is about the dynamic analysis. Which actuators must be selected to perform dynamic analysis?

The choice of actuators comes after the dynamic analysis. Feel free to go through all the necessary calculations in order to get accurate torque at each joint (unfortunately we cannot help you in this regard), but you might save significant time by simply overestimating the value of the payload.
