Hi Marion,
Short answers: maybe, but probably not.
Long answer: it depends on on your exact needs. We tested one quickly against a white sheet of paper perpendicular to the sensor. It worked as expected and responded properly.
We then tried the test again but with a glass door in between the sensor and paper. When perfectly perpendicular from the glass (and it is clean / no defects), it seemed to be able to detect the paper at roughly the right distance (maybe a bit short range than in air). But, when angled even a tiny bit, it had spurious detection of “an object” even when the sheet was not even anywhere near. Therefore, it seems it may sometimes detect the glass as an object, too.
Therefore, if you can set it in a way that your glass and sensor never move (in relation to each other) and that the glass has no detectable imperfection (with respect to the sensor) and is clean, it may work well enough to be used through the glass window.
In conclusion, it may work but it may also simply be unreliable, depending on your exact setup.
Sincerely,
Hi Sébastien,
Merci beaucoup !
We decided to buy one anyway, and try.
Sincerely,
Marion
