Essentially as a Christmas present to my boyfriend I’d like to give him all the parts and components to build his own remote controlled camera buggy/car for his photography hobby.
I’m sorry for being so ‘girly’ about this but I don’t really have much of a clue when it comes to electronics and robotics so I could really do with a shopping list so I can buy all the bits required to build something awesome this Christmas.
Essentially I’d want it to be:
- A remote controlled buggy/car which will can mount a Canon 7D with l-series wide angle (possibly a GoPro later down the line). I don’t know if you have quieter motors available, this buggy would be used to get close to UK wildlife so ideally the quieter the better. Terrain will be Somerset countryside so off-road wheels but nothing too crazy.
- He doesn’t have any sort of remote yet, I have done a bit of research into the Hitech 6 channel? He does have an Xbox controller and an ipad if these could be used but only if they could be programmed to do the following…
- Add flashes and activate these via the remote
- Be able to tilt/move the camera via the remote
- Remotely take pictures and possibly relay them back to a laptop/ipad if at all possible?
- Battery life maybe 4-5 hours minimum, and ideally rechargeable?
I live in the UK and have seen that you have a French distributor so ideally items from them.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Lynxmotion does not offer a pan/tilt powerful enough for that camera (with lens), and also since you live in the UK, here are the links to RobotShop:
In order to create an off-road 4WD camera platform with pan/tilt, you would need:
1x robotshop.com/eu/lynxmotion- … -rc-2.html
1x robotshop.com/eu/servocity-s … ilt-2.html (smaller cameras)
1xhttps://www.robotshop.com/eu/ddt560-direct-drive-tilt-hitec.html
1x robotshop.com/eu/hitec-hs645 … motor.html
If you also want to add a pan system:
1x robotshop.com/eu/lynxmotion- … servo.html
Note that you would need to gently drill four mounting holes for the tilt system.
Battery / charger:
1x robotshop.com/eu/bat-05-6v-2 … ttery.html
1x robotshop.com/eu/smart-charger-usc-02-2.html
Note that 3 hours is quite a long time for a robot to be operational, so you may consider two or three batteries depending on usage.
Express delivery depends on if we have all the components - for availability, simply check the website. You can purchase from our American website, though shipping fees may be higher.
Unfortunately the XBox cannot be used, and the iPad would require quite a lot of programming. In order to wirelessly send images / video to a computer, it would need a separate video system and the camera itself would need a video output. Unfortunately we don’t offer such a system at this time. You may want to consider something basic like:
robotshop.com/eu/vex-color-c … it-eu.html
This would likely need its own battery, and the output is analog, so the computer would need standard AV input.
Hope this helps,
