I am a mom and am trying to learn how to make a robot for my 6 yr old to play with. I have seen a tutorial somewhere and learnt the following:
2 Servo motors
1 receiver
1 remote control
6 volt batt ery from your site
Connect the 2 servo motors besides the wheels and connect them and the battery to the receiver. When used with the remote control it should work.
Can anyone please confirm if this is ok to buid a robot? I have a remote control for his old helicopter. Can I use that remote control?
I am planning to put up some wheel and boxes to make his body and face and some lights to blink. Any help would be appreciated:)
You are correct. So long as the servo motors are not too power hungry, you can connect them directly to the R/C receiver (ensure the correct orientation). Two motors = skid steering. Note that the two servos used to move the robot need to be continuous rotation, otherwise motion is restricted to 180 degrees. We have some wheels which connect directly to these motors. You’ll need some sort of caster to balance the robot. A normal servo such as the 322 can be used for the head. You can add some R/C LED lights.
If the R/C system you have doesn’t have a battery pack, you would need a 4.8V to 6V pack (either a pre-built pack or a 4xAA battery holder). If you get a pre-made NiMh pack, you’ll need an NiMh charger as well.
