I’m an engineering student and my project is to design a drone to detect natural hazards, it’s a group project and my component to design is the landing legs. I have done a drawing of what I wanted it to look like but was also considering other types of landing legs based on a 8 kg total weight and wanted to also know the best angle for mounting them and what calculations are needed.
Hi kurt29,
A good UAV/Drone landing gear should be able to flex a little so the stress of landing will be dissipated instead of making it break.
The right angle / material / position needs to be tested for your specific application. The location in relation to the rest of the frame needs to be taken into consideration too.
What would you recommend to for the flex , i haven’t taken it into consideration. The application is aimed at agriculture area but not confirmed as yet. For the material i was thinking aluminium with vibration dampeners at the end , and the angle im still uncertain about what to calculate but was thinking around 75 degrees from the horizontal.
If they are any links or things that you can assist me with I will really appreciate it.
There are a lot of different ways to make a landing system for UAV’s.
If you aim at agriculture, that mean you will have video capture devices that you might want to clear (not obstruct the view).
Look around what’s available, this will give you a good idea of where to go.
