74HC164's Troubles

Good morning,
I would like to ask you some questions about 74HC164.

As we all known,we usually choose 74HC164 to drive more tube nixie when in the static scanning of making tube nixie. I can’t understand why the data which inputted by digital port write in the corresponding tube nixie. What I think is the 74HC164 is the chip with serial input and parallel output. For an example, it’s written into 0X55 first,then the Q0-Q7 of first 74HC164 will be 01010101 ( the level of Q7 pin is 1)…So…How to send 0X22 to the last 74HC164?

I am confusing.Could you answer my question?
