6V motor for Tamiya gearbox available? Or alternative?

Hello,

I’ve got the Xbee Rover V2 which is working well, other than I need more power.
I tried to find the RM3 6V motor on the Robotshop website, but it doesn’t appear to be available any more. I also checked the Solarbotics website, which shows them as sold out.
Do you know when these will be available again or suggest an alternative 6V motor?

Thanks!
Brent

Thanks Coleman.
Do you have any guess when you’ll get the 6V motors back in stock?
I’m planning to upgrade the power supply to a 7.4v lipo, so I’ll need to replace the current motors.

I’ve tried using the 4xAA pack and it runs down very quickly (within 10 minutes of use). I have an RFID reader and IR sensor on the Rover, which may be using some of the power.
How do I choose between 4.8V and 6V with the 4xAA battery pack?

Thanks for your quick response!
Brent

I just found these motors at Pololu:
pololu.com/catalog/product/1117
Are these very similar/same as the 6V Solarbotics motors? And would they work with the Rover?

Thanks again,
Brent

Thanks Coleman. Can you update this thread after you test these motors?

Thanks Coleman!

The 6V motors are currently sold out at Solarbotics, and they are our supplier. There’s a chance a distributor like Digikey or Mouser might have it, but you would need to double check the specs / dimensions before ordering. You can use the 4xAA pack to boost the voltage to 4.8V or 6V (not great for the motors but they’ll work).

Not sure, though they certainly look similar. We have added it to our catalog and will order some to see if they work. Product code will be RB-Pol-202 (product won’t be live for about 1-2 weeks though, MSPR will be the same).

I put one on order to be able to test it and plan to get back to you here. Delay may be 2 weeks, so apologies in advance.

The motor (RB-Pol-202) seems to fit the Tamiya gearbox. Sorry for the late reply - we just got the shipment today.
