3DOF Quadruped VS 2DOF Hexpod

Can anyone assist me in making a selection between these two.

2DOF Hexpod

Since 2DOF SES legkits are not available so would anyone give me an estimate of cost for the 2DOF Hexpod for just the hardware kit and if possible a list of required components.

Previously i was interested in 3DOF Quadruped but someone suggested me to go for 2DOF Hexpod since it’s easy to implement and would require the same number of servos.

So if i buy 2DOF Hexpod, would i be able to use its SES kit to build any other models either?which configuration would be more customizable?

Actually i don’t have any experience with such robotic kits so far, thats why i’m a bit confused with different configurations available.
Thanks

Any of the walker kits, like the 2DOF Hexapod, that you get from Lynxmotion are customizable and Servo Erector Set compatible. That means you can upgrade it easily to 3DOF later, customize it in other ways, or take it all apart and rebuild it into something completely different anytime you want. Every part is reusable!

That is the Lyxmotion advantage over a lot of other company’s stuff - it’s all reusable and customizable. The same goes for other Lynxmotion kits as well - they are all Servo Erector Set compatible.

I personally like this little guy a lot.

It’s small and unintimidating. The really cool part is that the SSC-32 has a built in 12 servo hexapod sequencer. This means making it walk is as simple as sending a few serial commands from the host microcontroller. Then the host micro is free to do any timing intensive things, i.e. dealing with sensors, etc. without worrying about the walking process. You have complete control of all aspects of the walking gait by sending these simple commands. We even have a hexapod sequencer control panel built right into the Lynxterm program, and it’s free… This makes it very easy to quickly setup your robot for the best configuration. And of course we have the Basic Atom programming already done for wireless sony play station remote control. It’s feature packed.

Check out the tutorial for the EH2 which will work for this bot just as well.

I have been thinking about building a smaller walker. I am thinking about something like this, or a 2DOF round Octapod.

:open_mouth: Um… 2DOF round walker. :open_mouth: They do really well at rotating in place, but not much else. You need 3DOFs for round walkers.

I know, I know, I have this thing for eight legged things. That’s kind of amusing since I do NOT like real spiders at all.

OK, I can design a nice short 3DOF leg. I already have the 2DOF short left and right legs done. Or maybe a 2DOF long Octapod then.
