3D Models Free Viewing Software

Hi all,
As we build more of Jim’s parts in SolidWorks I thought I would pass along some information for those who don’t have SolidWorks.
There is a software package put out by SolidWorks called edrawings. It is free dowload from the their web page
solidworks.com/pages/products/edrawings/eDrawings.html

You are not able to build assemblies but you can open the assemblies others make rotate them and zoom in and out. You do have to down load all of the parts files and keep them with the assemblies but it is away for you to take a close look at how the robots are built.
Just thought you might all like to know about it.

It’s to bad there is not a “Virtual Workbench” Program that would allow one to piece together the parts to experiment with different configurations with the SES modles. The interface cold be supper simple allowing users to import several modles and have easy snap to joint abilities and the ability to rotate, zoom, and joint moves.

Well, there’s always the RCS (www.mike-winters.com/).
Mikes got a pretty decent amount of parts already made.
There’s no part-snapping, yet, but you can load multiple parts on one scree and then orient them so that they look like they’re fit together.

That should be enough to give you a visual indicator of what types of joins would or wouldn’t work.
You’d have to have some understanding of how the parts go together, but there’s countless pictures on the LM site to help with that.

Right now, Mike’s in school (like me) and he hasn’t been able to work on the RCS or RCK, recently (at least, AFAIK).

Mike,

Could you supply the parts in DXF format as well?

Thanks…Rick
