I have a 36v, 3 phase dc motor which I got from a hover board.
This is my first time working with a 3 phase motor. All the other dc motors I worked with just has 2 wires.
My question is, how can I get this to spin on a 36v dc battery?
Can I connect the Red and black wires to battery + and -?
What does the 3 thick wires do? Blue, Green, Yellow.

Hi @tonynsx and welcome back to our forum.
This looks like a 3-phase brushless DC motor to me.
Three thick wires are for the three phases of the motor, and the rest of the thin wires is probably for the Hall sensors.
Controlling a brushless DC motor (BLDC) like those used in hoverboards generally involves using an electronic speed controller (ESC):
Feel free to ask anything else.
Hi @igor_X
I have this speed controller. I already have this speed controller, would this work?
If not, I was going to order this.

First one no, it is for DC brushed motors.
Second one should work!
@igor_X
Thanks, I’ll try the second one.

Sorry one more time, what about this one? This one seems much simpler.

I guess it will not work because you mentioned your motor is 36V and this ESC has working voltage between 7 and 24VDC.
Oops, sorry rookie mistake. I’ll look for a 36v ESC
