3.5" LCD Chumby Touchscreen (refurbished) cable question

Heys,

I’ve found a LCD that we (our projects team) figured might be useful into what we’d like to do. We’re creating a data acquisition unit to not only gather and store data but as well as having the ability to monitor said data; hence the LCD. We though having it as a touchscreen would take out 2 birds with one stone in the sense that a keypad is fused with the screen. Currently, we’ve have our ADC, SPI, and talking to the RTC working. We’re at the process of talking to an SD card (external memory to store the data) and in need of a LCD to display/monitor incoming data.

On to the LCD (RB-Chu-07) question (more so directed to ROBOTSHOP staff or to anyone who can help):
Listed on its description is a cable that can be used along with the LCD. My group is curious if this cable will act as a header to be connected to our PIC’s SPI or is the cable for something else.

Also, if any other advice/suggestion can be given in regards to what we can do to make things easier or sites we can use for references, it would be much appreciated.

Hi keithleano,

Welcome to the RobotShop Forum. The “cable” described in the description is the yellow/gold flat cable in the third image of RB-Chu-07. This cable is not easy to interface with and hacking the communication protocol is not easy. If you have time and want to get experience, you can try it, but for a school project it will eat a lot of your time. Instead we suggest a touch screen LCD or OLED with simple interface such as the 4D systems 3.2" QVGA Touch Screen LCD.

Hope this helps,
