The 2.8“ Nextion HMI LCD Touch Screen uses UART, not I2C. However, there are other displays available in the store that use I2C, for example:

This screen uses the Nextion Editor software (available here), which allows users to create and design their own interfaces. You can also find the Editor Guide here, the Instruction Set here, and a Java library here.
