The DCSR (Danish Council for Strategic Research) has injected 1.9 million euros into a Danish project called ASETA which aims to robotize some farming operations related to crops.
According to Robotland, Denmark figures amongst the leaders in robotics for farms and agricultural enterprises.
The project started in January 2010 and should continue until December 2013. ASETA employs 11 people full-time as well as 5 researchers part-time to contribute.
The aim is to develop surveillance and treatment robots for crops which will act as quickly as possible when a problem arises and at the same time will limit the negative impacts of chemical products on the environment.
In fact, these robots will be small unmanned helicopters equipped with sensors and thermal and multispectral cameras, which will send data to the ground station for final analysis and treatment if necessary.
