A very interesting robot project has been developed by a team from the MIT. It consists in using swarm robotics to clean up oil spills. As shown in the video below a fleet, or even a single robot, can be set to tirelessly clean-up the ocean surface from floating oil. Powered by the sun, the robots scoop the oceans surface by using a nano fibre capable of absorbing floating oil, and then capture it in an internal reservoir. The team claims that a fleet of 5000 of these robots could clean the Gulf of Mexico in a month. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlHapZoIXqg
