Heartland Robotics, founded by Rodney Brooks as
reported before, changed its identity to
Rethink Robotics. And rethinking robotics they do as they recently released Baxter, a robot with common sense as they brand it.
Baxter overview
Baxter redefines industrial robots since it allows small and large manufacturers to incorporate it in their manufacturing process to help humans and do repetitive or dull tasks for about 25 000$, which is very affordable compared to previous solutions. Also, Baxter is compliant and smart so it can be taught to do a job by a non technical worker in a safe and interactive way. See the video below for a full presentation of this friendly industrial robot.

Robots like Baxter will remove the barriers that often exist between robots and humans, by allowing non-experts to manipulate them and accomplish useful things with them. If computers set a precedent, this could be the beginning of the personal robot era.
