SIK!!
Very nice. This uses WiPort and WiPort Board v2? If anyone is interested in the Board V2 you can get it @ wibotics.com/wbb01.html I managed to find the product even though its not on the product list.
Where would you plug it into if you wanted to use this with the Mini Atom Bot Board?
Hi, real nice
to control it you need a wiport board and a wiport module? whats the difference? and why is the wiport module so expensive?
The WiPort Module is the actual thing. Why so much $$? Ask the company. THe WiPort Board is just a board that you plug stuff into. If you don’t want to buy a $30 board for this, you don’t need to. Read the WiPort’s manual and find out what pins are what, then buy the header thingy they sell for a few $ and make your own board.
ok thanks, well, I dont have enought money after buying alot of stuff so I will keep the serial cable
Sam
I rather have my bot tethered for now than pay $150 on a wireless solution. I probably think, 99.99%, that Nick rushed out and got the WiPort as soon as he heard of it I also don’t really need a wireless solution because I will be running my bot on my desk for now and its not gunna go far anyway… When I get a full humanoid that can walk on the carpet and stuff then I will start thinking about a WiPort… I also need a wireless router, eh?
Oddly I do not see either the v2 board or WiPort modules on the WiBotics site any more.
Is Lynxmotion planning on carrying these items in the future?
the v2 board can be found in the link i posted in my post above. erm, but you cant buy it =/ you can get the wiport module from GridConnect.com or SemiConductorStore.com i like gridconnect… At GridConnect there is a 55$ version of the wiport module but it is without the radio.
Odd, WiBotics stoped selling the wiport module. I was at the site a few days ago and they still had it.
And good question. Is lynxmotion planning on carrying these items in the future? These, or other good wireless toys.
THey should…though i doubt it…the only non lynxmotion products sold at LM.com that I know of are servos.
But they prob will make a brat Kit with the Wiport.
Good Just in time … I got mine today (Posted in my project log)
Actually, you dont need a wireless router, but your computer will need a wireless card installed since the WiPort connects directly to your computer
So, I can just have my netgear card in my computer and it will work? I don’t need to get a wireless signal?
Robo666: I think you are confused about how wireless works.
If you have two computers with wireless. They can talk to each other without the wireless router. It just they are doing a form of Peer to Peer (P2P). This is what the Wiport and your wireless network card will do.
I probably think, 99.99%, that Nick rushed out and got the WiPort as soon as he heard of it
Well, you’re 99% right.
I rushed out, bought a powerful tool that I didn’t know how to use, mastered the basic techniques of rapidly releasing magic smoke, and now have a nice paperweight for my troubles.
How would you like your WiPort?
Medium-rare or char-broiled?
You did not kill it entirely did you Nick? I thought you had said only one of the serial ports was gone?
Yes, one is confirmed gone (tested with a logic analyser) and the other is questionably gone.
I didn’t have enough time/patience to test both ports, but I’m assuming they’re both gone, since I can get neither of them to output.
But… I’m cluttering an already cluttered topic.
Thanks for the tutorial, Jim!
Nice going Nick! You can always take something and make it do nothing!!
