Which dc motors to buy?

If you need 900oz-in continuously, then you will be pushing the motor quite a bit, so you might consider something more powerful (choose a more powerful DC motor like the 550 which can offer 70oz-in at stall.

Hi,

You should never be anywhere close to stall torque / stall current. The max continuous current should be ~1/4 stall, so around 15A. This is pushing the Pololu 18V15 to its limit, and you would need to add overcurrent and thermal protection. However, since you did not purchase it yet, consider something that can provide more current such as the 24V23 or two Pololu 20A single motor controllers.

Hope this helps,

Hi starguy,

It’s important to understand the concept of stall current - you should never, under any circumstances, operate at stall torque/current. The maximum torque/current you should require from a motor is ~1/4 stall; anything higher than that will reduce the lifespan of the motors. The 20A controller was suggested because you wrote 60A. The motor controller should be able to provide ~1/3 stall current (continuous) and ideally you have a fuse in place. If you can budget for it, you can select a motor controller which is capable of providing up to 1/2 stall.

Sincerely,

The CIM motor with gearbox is the most powerful motor we currently offer. The CIM motor is in stock, and the Banebots CIM Gear boxes take about 2 weeks to produce.
