I want to make a wheelchair based on the functionalities and movement of a robot. For this I have a wheelchair without electronics. With the wheel motors AND three endless motors to move the seat. I need to know what electronics to put in it.
I need a controller for the movement of the wheels.
A joystick, display and several buttons for the controller.
I have several gel batteries and I would like to integrate the charger.
I need another controller for the motors that move the seat AND their limit switches.
(I don’t know how the motor brake works on each wheel and how to control it).
Hello @Tetractive and welcome to the RobotShop community!
In order to choose the controller you first have to take into account the specifications of the motors, if you are unfamiliar with this I recommend checking this guide:
A great option for wheelchair motors is the Sabertooth motor driver which has multiple input modes such as Analog, R/C, serial, USB, etc.
But you can find other options in the Brushed DC Motor Controllers section, for the charger you can visit the Battery Pack Chargers section of the store and check if you can find a match for your batteries. However, you should make sure your batteries are suitable for your robotic wheelchair.
For the brakes:
The Sabertooth 2x32 has two additional 8A power outputs, which can be set up to operate electromagnetic brakes on motors, act as a voltage clamp to protect power supplies, or power other medium duty loads.
