More info Yes the idea to use the robot came from the you tube video. The program involved exploring engineering careers, so we did two weeks of electrical engineering and robotics during which time we taught soldering skills, ohms law, and identification of the various components. Then the students get some practice kits and then they worked on the robot. We had some problems with the code and couldn’t get the playback to work. The kits came from Solarbotics a great company to work with. Kudos to Frits for developing the robot. I gave the students some pipe cleaners, bells and straws to decorate the robots and control the wires. After the robotics the students also did mechanical engineering with the fabrication of carbon fiber rockets and product engineering using 3 d printers. The highlight was having 60 yellow drumming robots in a drumline at the closing of the program.
