Steampunk Goggles

The last couple of days all our stuff prepared something for the Maker Faire. One of the gadgets is a pair of steampunk goggles which are designed be our mechanical engineer and new LMR member Stuart.

The googles are 3D printed and we added some stuff like the valve, the zoom lens, the sunglass, leather belt and a clockwork...looks ugly when not aged so I did the paint job by spray painting it first with some goldish paint and after drying added some black and partially swiped it off. I think the look is quite ok but see for yourself at the DFRobot booth at the Maker Faire in San Francisco, May 17th & 18th, 2014.

The STL files are on Thingiverse: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:332061

But what's all the writing without pictures, so here are some of the pictures I took before the goggle left for the Maker Faire.

And now meet some of our stuff wearing those awesome steampunk goggles:

Stuart, mechanical engineer and the designer of those goggles.

Helena, HR administration.

Nicole from our sales department. She was the first one volunteered for the photo shooting with the goggles. very brave girl :-)

Jackie, Co-founder of DFRobot.

And Amber our intern who also speaks German :-)

If you want to see those googles in real then just come to the Maker Faire Bay Area, May 17 & 18, 2014 and find the DFRobot guys.

@bdk: Well, you got to get some glasses too :slight_smile:

@Max: Will ask them next time.

@hoff: That’s a nice little eyecatcher indeed.

@Ashim: The view from inside is weird because that zoom lens changes your focus a lot and the sunglass is pretty dark.

@JerZ: Thanks and LOL

@TitiMoby: Thanks, and yes, you are right.

@Frits: Thanks man :slight_smile:

Wooooooow!
It’s really nice to see a lot of people like this thing!

Pity this one will be give out as a gift during the Maker Faire. But we only got 5 days to design and make this one.
Now we have plenty of time I think we can make another & better one!

The paint work is really awesome! Thanks @Lumi.

I’m thinking about making a pair of goggles, but since I have nasty prescription lenses, I’m going to try to see if I can order prescription lenses for the goggles. Then I can put other lenses in front of them…

I hadn’t thought about using 3d printing for them until now.

I did notice that Nichole looked very different wearing the goggles rather than holding them.

Well done. How did it go over at the Maker Faire?
