SSC-32 and digital servos

I didnt buy anything yet. I am still researching what I need and what’s available in the market. I will need 15 of HSR-8498 servos which would cost ~$60 x 15 = 900 + cost of a servo controller.

so besides the feedback, will the SSC-32 work with HSR-8498 digital servos ?

The quick specs I see at the previously posted link has the below line. You might ask the people you are going to purchase from if the PWM is the standard servo control PWM just to be sure. Also, you will probably need some type of programming interface to actually change any of the default settings for the servo. Looks like the default is 90 deg of rotation instead of 180, and there may be others.

Interface: HMI Protocol, RS-232C Daisy Chain, PWM

Thanks Jim. Does this servo have 180deg range right out of the box? I dont want to spend more to modify the servo for 180deg. From the info about this servo on servocity, it seems this servo has +45 to -45deg motion only.

Please clarify.

Thanks.

Hello Aaqilkhan,

I have no idea what servocity says. But I am telling you what I observed from testing a unit brand new right off the shelf. You’re gonna buy the servos from us right? Hope this helps…

If you look at the details (@ bottom Left) it says it has a max 180deg operating angle. It says that it’s a programmable servo, so I am guessing that it only has 90deg rotation out-of-the- box.

Why are we discussing servocity’s inaccurate specs? I’m telling you I took one off the shelf and tested it. I observed 180° range right out of the box. Brand new. No programmer required. :unamused:

besides if you order them from lynxmotion they will ship them within a couple days at most and you will get e-mail with tracking numbers and your stuff shows up! with servocity… not so much all the time but if you got time to sit and wait and wonder… :unamused:

Hi Jim,

I believe you and I will definitely be ordering the SSC-32, some servos and couple gearmotors featured on your website. But, being a canadian resident, I will have to order from RobotShop.ca to avoid customs, unless theres some way around customs?

Yes, I agree, place your order with Robot Shop. Thanks…

Can the SSC32 read information from the 5990 yet? Didn’t look like it from the manual. Is this still being worked on?

The SSC-32 will never read values from any servo. Its servo ports are output only. Mike Dvorsky the designer of the SSC-32 is working on a controller that can do this, but he’s not had time to make much progress. Basic Micro is also working on a controller for them. They will likely have a solution sooner than Mike and I.

Don’t ask me for a time line for these. I do not know…
