Angle bars are frequently used for strengthening purposes.
Shown here are two ways that may be used on the angle bars:
Method 1) Weld one of the flanges onto the surface subjected to force - good for welding on flat surfaces, or on the edge of two perpendicular plates joint together..
Method 2) Weld the edge of the two flanges onto the surface subjected to force - good for welding on uneven surfaces
Solidworks Simulation is used to determine reaction of the angle bar under a load.
Angle bar is rigidly fixed on both ends and the same uniformly distributed load is applied on both setups.
I can be seen that Method 1 will delflect less in the results.
