I’m sorry if I was vague. I would love for you to expound. I have been researching GPS and I’m convinced that it needs to be used in conjunction with some form of dead reckoning. I really like the idea of using RFID tags over most of the other methods out there (buried wire, infrared beam, radio signals), but I do not know much about them.
If you are willing to teach I would love to learn.

The way a RFID system would work for your robot is that there would be a series of buried tags. When the robot drove over a tag the tag would transmit a unique number. A gps could be used to give the robot a general idea of where it is but the tags could give a path to follow. I’m not totally sure if this would work for you or not. You might even be able to eliminate the gps if you used a buried wire in combination with the RFID. Googling RFID might turn up some information.
