Maybe this picture shows it better. I actually twisted the wires together, soldered them, and placed heat shrink tubing over them. When I got it all together I thought maybe I should have twisted them end to end. I tried to take the shrink wrap off but it’s on there better than the original wire coating I think.

Actually that’s not the real stinker in this photo. Here is a close-up of the modem. I soldered the Break Away Header with the long pins on the wrong side. Once I got the solder on I didn’t feel brave enough to try and remove it, so I left it as is. I was still able to save it by sliding the wires out of the data cable and sliding them directly on the modem.

Would have been nicer to do it as demonstrated in the tutorial.
