Praying Mantis Robot Project!

Thanks - I’m glad you like it!

Hi everyone!

Sorry about not posting anything last week, I was pretty busy so I didn’t get much of a chance to do anything. I have however, produced a second dance video so that should hopefully be entertaining. ^___^

On a different note, I’m going to put a pause on the walking attempts for the hybrid because, as I mentioned in a previous post, I had to replace some “C” brackets in the legs with “L” brackets but because of this substitution, the range of movement for the legs is pretty limited so walking is pretty ‘messy’ at the moment.
I’ll hopefully have some parts cut around christmas time so fingers crossed for a better upgraded version in the new year.

On a second note, and I didn’t really want to say anything until I had actually starting producing some parts for this but I’ve got a pretty good idea for a smaller robot project that I can start. I’m planning on producing a small series of robots called “Transmorphatrons”. I’ll be taking any object I like and be turning it into a robotic contraption. ^___^

I’m also putting Moonlight Dragon on hold too for various reasons, some of which include lack of CNC machine access and cost - the larger robots are way too expensive to keep producing so I’m working on smaller ones which are still (hopefully) cool.
I’ll post some more information on the Transmorphatron robot when I’ve gotten some test pieces cut out or when I’ve finished a solid design, I’m still on rough ideas for the different sections at the moment.

Anyway, enjoy the video! ^___^

With the green and red brackets, all you need is a small santa-clause hat to make it “robot-santa” - ready for the holidays!

Hahaha! That’s a pretty good idea actually - it’ll make for a fun Christmas photo.

Hi everyone! ^___^

Just a formal update for Infinity Mantis …
You may have already seen the group photo of NEXUS, Infinity Mantis and the Fusion Robot and you might have possibly seen the (technically) new leg brackets - well, I say new, they’re actually the ones from the old quad/hex version of Infinity Mantis and I needed a new pair of legs since the “L” brackets weren’t doing so great.
Well, anyway, I changed the legs and now the Hybrid should have a much wider range when it comes to walking.

I’ve got an idea for a video too so I’ll try to record that tomorrow.

Hi AK,

It’s really looking good. But it is already two tomorrows since your last post,so - no pressure - BUT WHERE’S THE VIDEO YOU PROMISED???

One evolutionary question that isn’t clear in the photos. Has it really developed four eyes? Or are the two, slightly smaller, lower ones heat seeking infrared receptors as on pit vipers?

Hahaha, yes, sorry about that RoboTed.
I had to re-write some coursework due in on Monday and that turned out to be a lot more horrible than I had thought.
However, I have finished the video and I shall be posting it shortly.

Ah yes, that is a good question!
Well at first I didn’t realize this but it’s actually quite fascinating - it doesn’t actually have eyes! :open_mouth:
The markings on the face are actually for two things:

  1. Scaring away the predators (i.e. children with sticky hands).
  2. Distracting the viewer from the rest of the body so he can get a good few punches in (if necessary  ).
Infinity Mantis is actually telepathic which is actually quite bad for me because he knows if/when I’m going to pull the plug on him and the fight that ensues “ain’t gonna be pretty”.

Hi again everyone!
My internet was being slow so uploading the videos took it’s time but anyway, it’s now done.
I present to you - Infinity Mantis; Hybrid Edition attempting some Tai Chi.
I purposely put the video in slow-motion because I think it works well with the music and at whole concept of Tai Chi - let me know what you guys think.

Enjoy! (^0^)/

Definitely seems to be popular - it goes to show the versatility and flexibility of humanoid robots. Waiting to see it walk

The walking might be a while - I have plans to start with the code next week but hopefully, I should have a video by next Saturday. ^___^
Hopefully it’ll walk better with the new leg arrangement.
