Pairing a Proximity Sensor with its Target

Hi.
I need a proximity sensor to react to presence (movement) of a specific target. I mean in the specs where proximity sensor is operating, many objects may get close to the sensor, but I need, proximity sensor to react to only a specific object getting close.

For example a FOB key.
I have one FOB key for my office and another FOB key for my residence, however when I want to enter our office, office door lock opens the door only when the office FOB key gets close to it, not my home FOB key.

HI @abaaga and welcome back to our forum!

I am not sure how proximity sensor could detect some objects and some not. Possibly, a vision camera could solve this where you would program it to react only to certain shapes, colors or similar.

But regarding the FOB key. Isn’t it supposed to work like that as you described? If you approach with wrong key, doors will not open, if you approach with correct key the doors would open. I don’t see what is the problem here?

Hi Igor.
Thank you very much for replying.

I have given the FOB key as an example how I need the proximity sensor to work. Door lock only reacts to one specific FOB key.

I understand now.

Do you know the dimensions of the object that this proximity sensor needs to detect?

And, what should be the working distance of this sensor?

Again like the FOB key example. The target that the proximity sensor will react to, we need to design. Like FOB lock system, the lock system comes with its key.

I think this should make the solution simpler.

Sorry I failed to answer your other question.

The range is about 3 or 4 meters.

I think most of proximity sensors are inductive or capacitive, so detection depends on the material of the object.

But maybe you could use Vision AI camera that you can teach to which objects to react:

Hi Igor,
Does RobotShop carry the AI Camera system?
Do you know how much it costs?

Also over the weekend I did some reading on the matter, I think Keyless Entry System to cars (which are essentially FOB-Proximity Sensing systems can be a solution as well.

I have found a two page PDF, I can forward it to you if you are interested.
