Nice! My wife told me I should share the project on Livejournal and it looks like it paid off.

Now THAT’S johnny 5 8)

I love the arm! Nice work, just watch out that the arms don’t get stuck in the tracks

It makes the robot much cooler 8) You’re robot looks so cool, looks like jam packed with custom features. You will soon be able to make him fetch you a beer!

Thanks! The arm length shouldnt be an issue as when hes roaming the arms are going to be powered, and not limp.

Real quick- I just finished up (well, almost) a major overhaul on J5, new arm design has been implemented. Don’t have time to do another write up on it, but details are in my Blog.

Here’s a teaser though:

 J5 has been juicing!

lmao, thats sick :open_mouth: :smiling_imp:

i wouldn’t wanna fight him :open_mouth:

Wow, that is the best mini Johnny 5 I have ever seen. Nice work on the arms.

Nice! I like the arm rotation, does it work well? Wich servo did you put the 5990’s?

Well, the stock J5 model comes with arm rotation, but it’s direct drive meaning the arms are mounted directly to the servo shaft. I added length to the arms and an actual elbow joint, so given the extra weight I changed it to the indirect drive setup using the LPA’s. Rotation works the same as before.

The shoulder rotation, shoulder lift, and elbow servos of each arm have been upgraded to 5990TG’s.

OMG! That is BAD TO THE SERVO BONES!

Can you take another picture with it against a white background? It’s hard to see the detail with all that black.

Can ya huh can ya huh?

No kidding. That thing is awesome. And with HS5990’s powering the arms, you have opened up a lot of possibilities. Killer!!

Yeah! You’re going to be able to do actualy useful stuff! Did you think of replacing the hands with LM or custom made grippers so you could be able to pick up like… pens, cups? The hands are nice, but wouldn’t they have dificulty with those kinds of tasks?

I don’t plan on having it pick up very small objects, like pens and whatnot. My main goal is to have it pick up a beer  I’m going to be adding some rubber grips to the inside of the hands, and I’m hoping that with two hands it should be able to lift a beer.

He speaks!
