NEMA 17 maxiumum load

Hello,

I am Bahaa Adel from HAW Hamburg. I have a question regarding the NEMA 17 and the mecanum wheels we have bought from you earlier. Does the NEMA 17 can move the mecanum wheels (Regarding wheels’ weight and the motor Max. Torque)? As I am trying to do that using arduino uno and A4988 driver or L298n and both give bad results. The wheels doesn’t rotate properly and the motor draw more than 2A.

Hi there @Bahaa

Could you be more specific about the motor and mecanum wheels you have? If it is possible it would be great if you could provide the product code.

I used this micro controller board in my college project for just to control the temperature or to blink the LED but this are all the minor projects, I think you need to go for other alternative.

Motor: Product Code : RB-Phi-210
Mecanum wheels: Product Code : RB-And-146
Motor driver: Product Code : RB-Pol-176

Hey @Bahaa,

How did you couple these wheels to the motor? What is your operating voltage? Can we see a video?

Thanks!

From the specs of the motor

  • Rated torque: 30kg·cm
  • Shaft maximum axial load: 49.1 N
  • Shaft maximum radial load: 98.1 N

It seems like it would be able to handle the weigh of a wheel which weighs about 0.4kg. The only problem I noticed is that the motor has a rated current of 1.7A and the A4988 driver can deliver up to approximately 1A per phase without a heat sink or forced air flow (it is rated for 2A per coil with sufficient additional cooling), you can read more about this in page 4 of the datasheet. On the other hand the L298n should work, maybe you could try following this tutorial and share your results.
