Needing help with stepping motors and controller

Hi
I would like some help
I’m thinking about building a CNC machine but first want to try to build an easy lifting device.
I would like to put a stepping motor to a treaded rod. The nut on the treads rod needs to travel 5 feet or whatever length I want it to travel.
I think I need a motor controller, non geared drive motor, power supply and something that will count the revolutions to give me a start and stop.
Can you help me?

As an option, I can recommend you this platform, which allows you to organize not only the control of stepper motors, but also much more. That being said, you don’t need to buy a controller or write machine code in programming languages.
This example shows how to control 5 stepper motors using encoders.
All control based on a single board computer (SBC)
Judging by your question, you do not want to dwell on one project.
