Ok, here is the deal.

We (Dreammaker/DFRobot) will give one standard Overlord Pro 3D printer away for free in exchange for a professional written review.

Here are the requirements of the person:

  1. Experience with 3D printing
  2. Already own a 3D printer or have experience in operating one
  3. Good writing skills in English (it does not to be her/his first language but please do not Google translate :-) )
  4. Good social network connections (to share the review in her/his own channels too)
  5. Member of LMR with at at least some useful posts with something I (or another LMR member) recognize as a useful post (to make sure that people not sign up only for this reason)
  6. Offers at least some free prints for LMR members when the review is done or give away the Overlord or give away her/his old printer or something like that

I assume that many will reply to get the Overlord but I want to go another way to pick the lucky person.

All of you will have one vote for someone else. I know you guys are talking in the shoutbox a lot and there is a serious development in terms of 3D printing on LMR. So, who can recommend another LMR member should write her/his LMR name in this survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PHQD6T6 a comment. I will check in the end of the Kickstarter campaign (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1122205541/overlord-3d-printer-multi-color-smart-stylish) at January 10, 2015 who have gotten the most votes. This person will then get one Overlord 3D printer for free at her/his doorstep. The only thing is that this person have to pay the tax in her/his country since we cannot cover that as well.

I am open for suggestions about the voting process.

Here I will list all the considerable suggestions from the comments:

  • The reviewer will give the Overlord in a robot contest ion LMR after the review (https://www.robotshop.com/letsmakerobots/need-someone-write-a-review-overlord-3d-printer#comment-124245)
  • or the reviewer will give her/his "old" 3D printer to the community and keep the Overlord
  • Setting up a print service for LMR members

That is the Overlord Pro which will find it's way to one lucky LMRian soon. (The color might be different)

Well, just started and

Well, just started and already suggestions.

As I wrote, I am open to suggestions and we will find the best way to get this done for the benefit of all. My initial idea was what Yahmez wrote, that the reviewer will give the machine away in a contest but considering the costs of shipping and tax I abandoned that idea. However, it’s not off the tasble yet, please keep your suggestions coming.

I do not want a popularity contest as some SB comments already ruled out but to promote the Overlord. There will be a life for the Overlors after Kickstarter and a review is a good way to show what a machine is worth with the words of the “guys” and not the marketing department. Also that review will give us the opportunity to improve things if something comes up during the review.

Jinx
I propose Jinx. He’s written a lot of nice short tutorials for us and could write your review.

I think that joining
I think that joining Enabling the Future as Jinx suggested should be one of the requirements for the free printer, or Lumi’s company could do so. It would give direct help to some of the people who need it the most and give OverLord some great publicity.

Frankly this is one of the things that 3d printing does best: print one-offs. For a company to print a prosthesis is a huge deal with a lot of expenses. For individuals to use their spare time to make “entertainment devices” is fairly trivial for them to do, but a huge thing for the growing children who need these. And growing children sometimes need new ones twice or more a year. Even adults can’t always afford just one or have the ability to try out several different versions.

While making robots with our printers is more fun, and I’m not suggesting we stop that, but printing a hand a month doesn’t take that much time. Once I’ve conquered my frigging printer I plan to join.

Kudos for Lumi to suggest giving a printer away like this.

Voting

I find the rules and constraints very reasonable. Please clarify who is eligible to vote.

1. Suggest that you keep the counts private.
2. You find a mechanism to showcase to work or contributions provided by various members
without sounding like a political campaign.

+1 for Jinx, I think that he

+1 for Jinx, I think that he would do a great job and has been quite helpful around here.

And you know, selfishly, I might partake of his low cost LMR and others print service

But seriously, I think Jinx is your man.

We (DFRobot) are already in

We (DFRobot) are already in the eNable list of printers. We also working with some non profit organisation to find children with the need of a hand. I hope that we can soon post a report of a successful delivered hand to one Chinese child.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will see how evaluate everything later

Updated the post for more clarification.

Thanks for your input and your suggestions. I will consider all and I hope we will get not only a review (that we will get anyway) but also some help for LMR members.

Update on the

Update on the survey/voting.

Suggested from K120189 I did create a survey to collect the votes. Please check https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PHQD6T6 and leave your vote there. That way we do not have the problem of siomebody questioning your vote since it’s not on public display. Only votes which are made in the survey will count.

Lutz: If this is explained

Lutz: If this is explained in / cut down to 1-2 lines of text: (What is this, what could be in it for me, what shoudl I do? ) - then I think you will get more people in on it.

(It’s not a medicine I take myself)

Changing the title may not work very well. I did it before and then the page was not available, the new and the old one as well since that URL rewrite thingy. But yeah, you are right, I will write a short sentence in the top of the post. Thanks…i did not see your vote yet…
