Neato BotVac D85 Battery Problem

Hi!

My Neato BotVac D85 has not worked once in the last two weeks. I keep getting a message that says: Please open my dirt bin & push switch down to ON. When I open the bin, the switch is already in the ON position, so I switch it to OFF then back to ON. I have tried switching it OFF for a few minutes, as well as a full day. The vacuum then tells me the battery needs to charge. I leave it on the charging station and the light shows it is charging. Eventually I get the dreaded beep again and the same message about moving the switch to ON. Any ideas on how to fix this? The vacuum was purchased on 8/29/2016 and is still under warranty.

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

I had a similar problem with my Neato XV. I found out you need to switch the power to ON to charge. Very weird I know. Are you charging it on or off? Good luck!

I have the same problem. I have checked the battery, it’s about 12.7 volts. The charger delivers 14.8 volts. Should i replace the battery?

Hey there. I believe that your battery will need to be replaced.
I find out that these batteries would last 12 to 16 months in normal usage.

You’re right, the Neato needs to be charged with the switch to ON.

Depending on how old is the battery, the problem is 95% of the time related to the battery. The other 5% of the time could be an issue with the motherboard or the charger itself.

Yes, the battery is about 4 years old, so I guess it’s time to buy a new one

Thanks for the quick reply

I had the same problem and eventually replaced the battery.
This worked for a month then the battery needs charging alert started to come up but now it will not work at all.
I went through the new battery introduction to the machine but still not working.???

“HELP” Gavin

I had this same problem. I have replaced my batter several times over the last few years, but this time the warning will not go away and the battery will not work either it just keeps saying open and close over and over no matter what. Anybody have experience with that?

How old is the Neato?
Neato XV or Neato Botvac?
The battery is good to for around 1 year to 1.5 year.

Hello, I have the same issue with my D75. I have bought a new original battery and it worked for a week and it started giving me the error again. Tried unplugging and plugging the new battery but no change. Did anyone figure it out?

I guess the probleme is related to the motherboard. Not sure if Neato is willing to help you with this. If your handy, it’s nice trying to fix it yourself.

My Neato Botvac 85 had the same display. The battery is only a year old and is at a healthy 13+ volts. I removed the battery and discharged it completely by hooking up the black and red terminals to a 12-volt car bulb for several hours. The bulb got extremely hot so I kept it isolated during the drain process.
Then I reinstalled the battery and let it recharge for about 3 hours. I then reset the ‘SUPPORT’ menu to ‘NEW BATTERY.’
So far it has been working fine.

For me holding on button (no switch) for 5 seconds helps, robots restarts and start changing. But this works not for all batteries. , and sometimes issue comes also after restart.
