Here’s my 3rd version of this so far. This seems to be my best design yet. Once Lynxmotion opens up on Monday, I’m going to place my order for some motors. They will be placed above the back sprocket and resemble a tri-track. The gray plates is a shipping bracket for a treadmill. I have plans to add some sort of arm later

I think it would be interesting to see a tracked vehicle made using continous rotation servos used for the drive motors. Probably could save a little $$$ and might have a little more control possibilities than standard geared motors.
But would they offer enough torque? The platform itself is a little heavy. I’d also be really constricted with my options if I used a servo instead of a gear motor.
Servos are basically bidirectional variable speed gear motors that are normally limited to 180 deg of rotation. When modified for continous rotation the 108 deg limit is removed. The below servo is probably fairly strong and sturdy, and has comparable torque and speed to the gearhead motors.
I ordered two motors today and a few other parts, so hopefully I will get them early next week before I have to head back to school. Updates will come once I get the parts
My motors came tonight and I worked quickly to get them on there. Here’s the results so far. I have the Sabertooth hooked up to my old Airtronics MX-3S radio (synthesized, but sadly 27mhz). Tomorrow I’ll mount the Sabertooth and Mini ABB.
