You need a motor driver for any microcontroller if you want to run motors.

Motor Shield

I made a homebrew motor shield up for my Arduino, it wasn’t hard cost me about $10 to make using a sparkfun protoshield and ideas from this post https://www.robotshop.com/letsmakerobots/node/2074

Or if making one is a pain for you i highly recommend the robot builders shield by Ro-Bot -X, a very nice, neat, compact, shield for you Arduino https://www.robotshop.com/letsmakerobots/node/26119
