Mike's BRAT - (SN96) - New VIDEO

That’s what I thought Jim, thanks! 8)

Um, in focus? :unamused:

yeah some folks actually take the time and make the effort to have their pictures in focus.

I used my camera’s Macro Mode in case anyone was wondering how I took the close-up. Another factor is to keep the camera as still as possible, the slightest movement can cause a blurry image.

I can’t seem to find SES brackets for the range finders shown in the picture below. I was thinking about mouting my PING board in a romote location and have the wires rout to the bot head.

EDIT>>

Never mind, I found it:

Almost done with the chassis! I still need to get another ASB-04 for the foot since I used one for the head servo (I just could not resist!).

Need battery, batt. cable and servos. This image might look a little strange without arms but I think it turned out ok. Arms would provide a more balanced look, but for now, my brat is going to have to deal with the fat looking legs.

I also removed the PING sensors and polished the head a little. I want to put in Red Leds for the eyes.

IDK, I’ve never seen anyone fully modify the BRAT wit arms (or head), so I can’t picture it having arms.

Jim, you don’t have any pics of a full huminoid BRAT? IDT anyone has ever done this, even though I know it is possible. Think anyone can come up with a cool one?

I figured out a way to easily add arms to the brat but the arms will have to be short due to lower ground clearance. It might actually look pretty cool with its arms close to the ground, to give it a sorta mutated humnoid look.

It looks like there is space on the top of the U channel to hang an L on each side. Then you could attach the arm to the L. I would attach the L to the top of the U channel and have it pointing down, or up for more clearance to the ground.

Need to make sure you leave enough clearance for the battery pack in the U-channel if you put brackets on the ends.

I considered that option but the ASB-04b would hit the ASB-09 bracket. An ASB-18b would work better because it will give more clearance to the side of the legs. All you have to do is mount the ASB-18b bracket on the top of the channel and then the ASB-04 on top of that for a shoulder, and then build from that point onwards.

True. I would attach the long end of the L to the U channel to give more clearance for the battery, but that may still not be enough. An ASB-18 could be attached with the L attached to that, which should give more than enough clearance. The BRAT may look weird with the arms out that far from the body though, but it would have more of a mutant look. I am not sure it could stand though.

You posted before me see above comment ----------^

This is what I plan to do:

I will mount the ASB-04b on top of the ASB-18b. This will give the arms plenty or clearance for the legs.

Well I got my stuff in today and I slapped it all together. I still need a battery but I am considering a wall adaptor to allow plenty of power to experiment with walking sequences. My current wall adaptor isn’t gona cut it and I don’t want to fry my servos trying to use it. I need a wall adaptor, cable, and the seq-32 software.

Here are the photos!

Looks nice! I saw the head you made in a previous post and have to say I am very impressed. If you are ever looking for a similar project… I would pay quite well for a similarly constructed head piece modeled after the Johnny 5 from the movies

This makes me want a Brat to serve as a minion to my J5. I’m thinking of using my soon to be spare Blue smirf / dongle on the onboard PC and creating a slave robot for Johnny :smiling_imp:

Thanks!

Yeah, have the brat clear the path for big brother.

Ooooooooooooooo, SHINY - BRAT on steroids… I like it!

Awwwwwww!!! He looks sooooo cute!!! ^^;; I just want to hug him

I think he wants some arms now =)

Arms on the “to do list”

The hugging will have to wait till then… :unamused:
