That is pretty detailed! It looks powerful
I just had an email reply from RoboRealmā¦
They are going to email LynxMotion and ask about acquiring an SSC-32 so they could integrate it into their applicationā¦
RobotDude, if you are watching this thread, I hope I havenāt stepped on anyones toes here. I simply asked them if they supported it and they seemed to jump at the chance of doing it.

It is very much so, I think it may need some outside processing but it shouldnāt be too difficult to locate the centre of the robot in code and return the co-ordinates
THATS AWSOME! I find it hard to understand though how I can control the SSC-32 with PC software without a cord! Im not sure I wanto to incorporate bluetooth into my project as they are ussually dont have good operating ranges and are really expensive!
Thats what Roborealm will provideā¦ The ability to send commands via a comms link to the SSC.
Yes but to a COM port (COM 1 or whatever). To get it transmitted to my mobile robot I will have to incorporate a bluetooth module (something like a wireless comport thingy).
BTW, I found this program that works with Roborealm. I believe it finds the center of gravity of the object your tracking to judge distances by size.
BTW, my robot is on Bluetooth with an SSC in it. Its not an expensive mod and it works very well.
Its the main reason I chose the SSC because its one of the few boards Iāve found that works well with it.
Itās been quite a grind converting all my sequences over but it works now. The images I took above were while I was controlling it from my PDA via bluetooth.

The SparkFun Bluesmirf is on the left with the Red LED, The SSC-32 is on the right.
How much did that badboy cost and where did you get it? (bluetooth module )
They are very supportive of any who is trying something new with their modules
This looks promising: sparkfun.com/commerce/produc ā¦ ts_id=158#
Its a wireless serial port (replaces a DB9 cable).
What kind of modem do I need for this? Is it going to work with the ssc-32? Does it need programming?
I have this connected to my P.C.

The unit you showed me is the exact unit I have installed.
For that one you need to also buy an aerial to screw onā¦
They do a version that doesnt need an aerial

I can give you the details of How I wired mine into the SSC-32
I found this class ONE dongle for 10.00. Its about 100m (365 ft), much better range. All I want to know is will it work with that perticular model? And it dosent come with any software so I think it dosent need any driver to be installed.
Idk, think im either gonna go with the paralax or just manual tracking.
The Sparkfun dongle comes with a package called Blue Soleil. It is very powerful and supports the Serial function of their module.
To use any other dongle, you would have to contact SparkFun and ask them if they support it.
ill stick with that one than, how does it connect to the ssc-32?
Unfortunately my house is a problemā¦ Even with a class 1 Bluetooth I cannot get outside of my office with the signalā¦
The walls are insulated with a metallic foil under the plasterboard. I cannot even get Wifi through them.
I have a hard-wired link into the house from my office to a router which can then connect to Wifi.
For my next comms project I will go Wifi. If I can get a 54G working then I should have enough bandwidth to send Comms data and Video but the list of other stuff to do before then is rather extensive.
I must say though, since moving to the SSC I havenāt had any trouble with wireless comms at all.
Thats a mighty good one, but I have to buy my parts with my own money now
You know what, I just might get that one instead, as long as I can use that cheap dongle. I might want to make the whole robot operated by the computer if I can have someone make me software to control it for like 30.00. Think anyone will do it?
