I am very keen on the apod kit.
The instructions only mention Hitec 645 or better. Well, for me better could also mean cheaper
I bought 25 996R servos for about $250 including shipping, much cheaper than Hitec ones. Yes, I get that Hitec may be better, but 4 times better? If a servo is so popular, you’d think the price would come down.
Now I am curious if these servos will fit well with the apod kit parts. I couldn’t find any relevant posts. Dimension wise there don’t seem to be any major differences in hole alignments from what I could find.
The shaft probably won’t be a problem. Looks like the “rounded” a lot of the dimensions up a few mm. There is often several mm difference in key dimensions of physically “interchangeable” servos.
The distance from the bottom of the mounting tabs to the top of the servo horn is dramatically different. The Hitec is 17.3mm and the 996 is 21mm. They will not fit in the brackets or assemblies…
