I’m new to this, so even a point in the right direction would be appreciated. I’m looking for a motor or actuator to essentially pull or coil a rope quickly. Basically I need a rope to be pulled in one direction about 3 inches, as quickly as possible. So I’m not sure if coiling the end of the rope around a gear head motor, or attaching the end of the rope to the end of a linear actuator would work. Any suggestions? Thank you!
I would believe that using a fairly high rpm dc motor would be your best bet, and add a large diameter pully on the motor shaft so that the linear speed of the pull is increased over just attaching to the motor directly for the pull.
Does this application have to release the rope so it can be repeated, and if so is the speed of release important? if the speed of release isnt important there are some high activation speed solenoid actuators which may be able to activate quicker than the motor due to the need for the motor to speed up, but solenoids work on magnets so once the power is released the solenoid is likely to return to its start position at a fairly relaxed speed.
