Litter Robot - Rapid Flashing Yellow Light

I’ve had a Litter Robot 3 for about 5 years. This time last year - almost exactly to the day - I got the dreaded rapid flashing yellow light, indicating a problem with either the pinch contacts or the DFI boards.

After following guidance to clean the pinch contacts with WD40 and sand paper, I reassembled the LR3 and found that the rapid flashing yellow lights issue still present. After further troubleshooting, RobotShop said that I would need new DFI sensors. Given that my LR3 was well out of warranty at this point, I ordered new pinch contacts and DFI sensors.

I replaced everything and the LR3 started working again as normal.

Fast forward just over a year (I ordered the new parts on 25/08/2020, received delivery of them on 27/08/2020 and replaced them on 28/08/2020) and I’m back to the rapid flashing yellow light…again! I’ve done all the previous steps, given the LR3 a “full service” and I can’t fix the issue.

Given the part is only a year old, I was wondering if RobotShop would please send me a replacement?

Thanks!

Hello @starr20 ,

Welcome back to RobotShop community.

We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your Litter-Robot.

Unfortunately, the warranty for these parts is 3 months only so we can’t send you replacement parts.

Have you tried to clean the 2 green circuit boards of the DFI sensor with isopropyl alcohol and a Q-Tip to remove any rust or dust from the small pins.

If that didn’t fix the issue, you will have to order a new DFI sensor.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

Sincerely,

Hi Ebram,

Is a three-month warranty even legal? I thought there was a 12 or 24-month warranty period on good sold in the UK? I don’t think a 3 month warranty period is acceptable. In addition, no where on the item’s listing does it specify a 3-month warranty (part page: Litter-Robot 3 Open Air DFI Hardware - RobotShop)

Many thanks
Simon

Further to my previous post, your returns and warranty page at Terms and Conditions - RobotShop also doesn’t specify a 3-month warranty on replacement parts. I don’t think it’s fair or acceptable to claim there’s a 3 month warranty on parts when you do not specify this clearly on your website. If the warranty is specifed by the manufacturer, then I think the product’s page on your website should indicate this.

Thanks, Simon.

Hello @starr20 ,

Thank you for your reply.

These are replacement parts (not a full product like the robot itself or even the base)

The full products have a 2 years warranty (1 year if refurbished)

Also, the motor’s warranty is 6 months.

We hope this cleared things out.

Sincerely,

Hi Ebram,

It hasn’t, I’m afraid. I don’t understand how replacement parts are not considered goods in their own right? If they are (I’d argue they are but then again I’m not a lawyer!) then surely individual parts sold as individual items must therefore be subject to the legal warranty period of 24 months?

Could I please have the email address of your complaints department?

Thanks,
Simon
