Line follower design ~ bright sun 300 yard distance ~

I  want a line follower robot which will travel a straight path in bright sunlight for about 300 yards.  I am thinking a laser emitted from the robot to a mirror at the end and reflected back to the robot which adjusts the travel path? or? ideas on what might work well.

Is there a search on the forum? I wanted to see similar thoughts to read and did not see a search?

You can get some ideas if you search the web for CMU Mobot entries. Mobot is an outdoor race where competitors use line following.  Some use a camera, others use typical infrared sensors with physical shielding around them to block out the sunlight.  Some research into that race might give some other ideas.
