I want to start getting into bulding my own robots and I have been looking around this site every now and then for the past year or so. I'll probably start with something like the "start here" bot or at least use a lot of the info for messing around. I already understand basic quite well so I should be able to pick it up fast. I'm trying to figure out all the things I should get and here's what I got.
- Decent yet cheap soldering iron (any suggestions?)
- Breadboard
- Assorted box of each; resistors, capacitors, leds
- picaxe starter kit
- servos
- motors
- batery holder (I am lost here, any links to help me out would be great)
- jumpers
- IR sensor
- spare wire for connecting...things (what size/type?)
Is there anything else I should get right off the bat? I definatly want to go beyond just making the the start here bot and do my own experimenting so if there are any parts that almost everyone moves on to use I want to get them right away.

Sparkfun has a good assortment of resistors for like $13 + shipping of course, but well worth it if you’re stocking up on alot of items. They’re not the CHEAPEST, but very good customer service and shipping times have been crazy good for me. Some of the Ebay stores will have alot of the stuff you want, jumper cables and whatnot.

Free shipping (only to the USA), I bought 4 packs of their jumpers, LOVE them. Everytime I’ve purchased, got everything the same week (3 days usually, sometimes 2)
And for the soldering iron, the Radioshack dual-wattage iron is a good starter, about $25 like CtC was saying.

Thanks for the replys. I guess my next question is what websites are the best to order from? It would be nice if I could buy everything from the same site to avoid high shipping and getting tons of packages at different times.
