Jims To-Do List for 2008

They are still on my list. We have a major development we are working on that is pushing back some of my to do items. This new development will make so many things possible that we could not do before. It will change everything. I will provide more information in about 6 weeks. Sorry I can’t go into any detail yet. :frowning: We are all very excited!

From that statement, can’t wait to hear/see what you guys are doing! Can you give us any hint at what aspect you guys are developing? Electronics? Software? Mechanical (brackets and chassis and etc.)?

My guess is that LM is going to start distributing new products… 8)

Give me two days. Then I will announce what we’re up to. It’s not a product, but something much bigger.

Awesome, we got him down to 2 days from 6 weeks.

Start the rumor mill going!!!

My guess is the LynxServo board that I was so hoping for last year. That would enable super large bots, falling into the ‘making things possible’ category.

If not that… hmm, what is my second guess… Maybe they teamed up with Micro Magic Systems (or whatever that place is) to put out that zbrain thing. I kinda hope its not this… but I won’t go into that here.

Jim, all I can say is that you better not become another LumenLab! They started off so well, then went too far too fast with the eVo. It turned into a major catastrophe, and they left a lot of people stranded and broke their customers faith.

Let me inject another rumor:

If it’s not a product, then it must be a service. Perhaps a way for users to submit their own chassis pattern and you cutting a Lexan piece for us?

Hmmmm :bulb:

That would deffinitely be a good idea for people like me who can’t buy a CNC machine or cut with a bandsaw if their life depended on it.

That’s a good thought…

But there are already laser cutting services out there. How would Jim differentiate himself enough to be competitive?

(I know there are, because I use them!)

Price.

Ok here it is…

Just two hours ago we closed the purchase of our new building!

Very soon we will have expanded the operating space by over 130%. That’s almost 2 and a half times the space we had before. This may not sound terribly exciting at first, but you must realize that I have had to relegate new product development around a very limited space to put them. I have been told “if you add one more new product we will kill you!” lol With this new building we will finally have the needed space to complete our combo kits, add many new brackets to the SES, and hire some help! So as you can see it’s not a product, or a service, but the ability to better keep up with demand and and many new products or services. The building currently houses an orthopedic prosthetic company that’s going out of business, so there are some cool machines that they are leaving behind. I have plans to add a vacuum molding system to make lots of skins for the bots. 8)

The only drawback is they requested 45 days to finish up current orders and close the business. That’s where the 6 weeks came from. Well anyway, nothing will change overnight, but soon…

Congrats, Jim. I’ve been following Lynxmotion for almost 5 years now, and I’m looking forward to what the future may hold!

Bout time! sheesh! lol jk

Now you need to fill in that extra 1.5 space gain with milling machines vacuum formers, laser cutters and injection molders! yeah! :smiling_imp:

Congrats Jim

Vacuum molding… Now THAT would be a useful service!!!

Congrats on the new space Jim! Yay for a bigger better LM!

Look forward to seeing all the new brackets and kits!

That sounds like a BIG addition! In time I lynxmotion may become as big as microsoft LOLZ!

really good news!

When Jim is all settled in, some pictures would be nice. How bout a virtual tour?

I second that. I would love any kind of tour either virtual or in person. Congrats! I’ve been following for 5 years as well and am constantly impressed with the quality of the parts, service, and forum participation. Thanks again and keep us posted!

Congratulations on the expansion! Does this mean you will be bringing more of your fabrication and such in house? It would certainly give you more control of quality (and what you have is already excellent). I know you are a perfectionist though, and having more direct control over things would be better for ya.

This all certainly sounds like an excellent move for Lynxmotion! It would be really cool if you could eventually offer robots like the CH-3R without servos or electronics, the same way you are offering the Phoenix now. At least people like me could get a decent start and just purchase the electronics and servos as we could afford them.:smiley: I know it would make it very easy for me to get started towards the robot(s) I really want to work with (CH3-R, Phoenix, and round/inline Octapods). I’d purchase the Phoenix parts kit, but I think I should start out with a CH3-R first, then do an inline hexapod, and finally start working on an Octapod.

Ahhh, so you will have some new toys to tinker with! Toys are good!:smiley: Ooooh, clothes for the robots…

8-Dale

Congratulations! This must mean you’ll be able to vacuum mold some sort of vision system for us!
