Introducing the Lynxmotion Phoenix Hexapod Kit!

I think its a good idea to leave the hole, its a good way to keep the weight down.

Agreed. Lower weight, easier access to the innards, and if you want to hide/protect the electronics, you can always fashion a cover to go over the hole, even making it easily removable for access.

The hole doesn’t bother me as much as the shiny scratched metal look does. It looks like the poor bugger was sand blasted with plywood!

How much room does she have inside? Only enough for a SSC-32 + batteries?

Jim, maybe you can also offer a little metal plate the exact size as the bot board to cover up the hole in the top. So people can screw it in and cover that hole up if they don’t like it.

My main question is, can it move as smooth as the original? That is the most important question to ask I think.

Hi!

Nice tibia design! It was very similar to one of my prototypes, but the triangular hole made my tibias too weak. But with the strength of aluminium that won’t be a problem!

Looking forward to see some colors though

BTW, where are you gona put the battery? It must be very crowded inside the body now

Yeah we ditched the tumbled look and are doing traditional brushed finish instead. I did want to see it though.

Pretty much

Maybe a black kydex one

That is the main question isn’t it.

Zentas Pheonix weighed in at 1.8kg, and mine weighs in at 1.76kg. The dimensions are almost identical, the servos are the same, the weight is a wash
So the movement should be identical. 8)

Hi Zenta!

Thanks! I wanted to give it a bit more “C” leg style so I ditched the three holes and went for the triangle design.

The “AA” battery pack fits very snugly inside the chassis. The servo wires are a real pain to deal with. But LiPo is the real answer to this bots power needs.

Tumbling is cheap because you put the parts in a big machine and walk away. Any other finish requires a warm body, translates to higher costs.

Ah! I got it
My coxa design probably makes the body smaller (lower) inside, your SES brackets makes the body “higher” inside. The lowest part of the body on my Phoenix is inside the coxa. See the croped pic:

Jim, what’s the distance between the lower and higher bodypart (inside the body) on yours LM Phoenix? On my Phoenix it’s 48 mm.

I think a nice lexan door would be a fantastic option.

I have learned that Lexan or any other polymer material is fairly heavy in size-to-weight ratio. Aluminum is so strong with near the same weight properties.

This distance is 1.9375" (49.2mm)

Oh yeah
 the wires
:imp: I spent some hours to organize the wires

I’m waiting for some LiPo’s too. Hopefully the servos can handle the high voltage?!

Ehm
 OK. 1,2mm wasn’t extremely much
 haha

eh, np.

Oh! what color parts do you want me to send you? 8)

And thanks again for letting me duplicate your design.

Lucky Duck!!! 8)

Give and take, its cool. 8)

lol, I wish one of my designs gets one day mass produced

Choosing colors is so hard! arg

Do I have to decide on that now?
I think it would be easier for everyone to make a decision on colors if you posted 4 pictures of her (Phoenix) in every color version. Is it possible to combine different colors, ex. red body and blue legs (that is not my choice!! )?

Meanwhile, here is a little teaser

I linked to this video in my projects post too.

Oh, I thought you were making them silver, black and maybe a couple other colors. I guess I shouldn’t assume!

Does black out-sell silver in the SES parts? If so, then black is a no-brainer for this bug. I thought everyone loved black.

No of course not. I just wanted to make sure I order enough of each color, but really np.

No mixing, we are ordering exactly enough for each color. I can’t show the pictures till I get the parts in, so it’s a catch 22. lol

Yup I saw it and replied. You did a great job with the moves!

Black outsells silver by 1.5 to 1. So it’s a little more popular. I will probably do black, blue, red, gold and maybe green. Green was the least popular from the poll.
