just a bit more detail to add to it and im ready to mould.
It stands 20" high!

You’re a true renaissance man. I bet it’s hard for you to find something you’re not good at. This looks amazing.

Thanks Marcham, renaissance hay. 8)

with everything considered i still feel i need to take my time doing things. i feel my work is very rushed, and so things always go wrong.

thanks.

Well i have had the sculpture approved and it is now ready for moulding. update on this next once my delivery arrives.

moulding has started and i have finished the silicone rubber layers. next it will require a two part plaster casting over the silicone to make the mould ridged.

The 120 Polyurethane liquid will be ordered shortly. i have clear resin, but its not meant for roto-casting. i have used clear before to make hallow parts but with such a large cast it would be impossible to make sure i get it right.

Here is the Control Mech. Its soon to receive the Beak servo and a large scale servo for a body tilt feature as requested by the client.

its built the same way as the hawk but i have pulled the servos tighter together, and this has meant i didnt need to use the pull rod system as seen here:

I have a Hitec Laser 6ch Transmitter with a 35mhz TX Crystal on ch29, and a R700 7ch 35mhz Receiver with the paired RX Crystal. and i have been told these two work fine together!?

Im kind of new to RC regarding the setting up of a system. (But throw a plain or heli in the air and i can fly it no problem)

My setup wont pair up and i cannot control the servos, nor do they hold position or even seem powered at all.
Battery’s have been charged, checked and even swapped.

If the transmitter is turned off the servos jitter about as expected, but when turned on i get nothing?

Hey, Jonny,

Glad to see another of your projects progressing. From your earlier work, I know this is going to be great. However, your recent molding (sic :stuck_out_tongue: ) pic is reminiscent of some Hollywood monster thriller where the changeling’s veins and nerves are sudddenly on the outside of its skin. Come to think of it, given your wonderful animatronic Alien, maybe a monster owl isn’t a bad idea.

Best to ya,

Hi Jonny,

I have also been following your progress and am totally impressed

On your RC stuff, do you have the servos plugged directly into the the RC Receiver or into some other board? How is it powered up? I have a laser 6 CH 75 with the HFD-08RD receiver. I don’t see any Hitec R700 receivers, I do see ones made by JR. Are they compatible? My quick look up on the net confused me here as with FM receivers it sounds like some or positive shifting and others are negative shifting and some receivers can be switched from one to the other… Hopefully some one else with lots more experience here can answer.

Sorry I could not help
Kurt

thanks for your reply, well i have also been looking into this and it would appear my TX is positive shift. not sure if my receiver can be switch if needed.

to answer your questions i have the servos plugged directly into the receiver along with a 6v 2600mAh battery.

No they are not compatible. It’s a bit confusing but this place spells it out pretty well.

I did read where someone was able to use the R700 with a Hitec Optic 6 but I suspect it has a plug in module that allows changing from positive shift to negative shift. Your receiver is negative shift.

thought this might be the case. would you be able to recommend a receiver?

moulds are done and are ready to be filled with what i call “magic plastic” Easyflo120 polyurethane liquid.
Im waiting on an order for a 2kg kit. one should be enough but you cant ever have too much. lol

The day time temperature is hitting the 25-30ºc mark. too hot to start casing and it would just cure the resin way too fast to a slush cast.

my next update should be on the cured resin cast. quite excited.
I always find it interesting looking down into a mould and seeing the sculpture in a negative form. love the how the detailing on the claws and come out. and the undercuts came out as expected.

Again… Sculpture destroyed! :unamused:

some render design updates.

WOW…!

thanks Eric. they just help me and other s i suppose, to pre-visualise the progress.

one finished casting:
The **black **lines are the dividing lines.

I used about 1.3kg of polyurethane, split between three batches to make sure i get a good covering.
