I don’t think this is the case with Alibre. The holding down both buttons and moving the mouse always works to rotate the assembly or part, no matter what operation you happen to be doing.
I am getting anxious to get some subassemblies made so I can start creating the legs and wheels again.
I worked out two possible ways of putting wheels on legs, but I don’t like either alternative. I think both add way more length to the leg when the wheel is a foot than I care for. I don’t think this is really worthwhile with the SES parts.
I did a bit of googling and found this. There are some more videos (and text) about the Roller Walker showing how it works and its construction (which gives me more ideas), and also some more interesting quadraped info. I am still not sure if I can reproduce this motion using SES parts though. It may be possible to use an omni-wheel as a passive wheel. This is a Japanese site, so streaming is eratic.
I may be wrong, but if you use an omni wheel you won’t be able to use the skateing motion to move the 'bot will you? Doesn’t the omni wheel allow movement in all directions? Omni-Directional Wheel?
The skate motion seems to be catching on! This guy uses it to ambulate on land and to swim on and UNDER water. youtube.com/watch?v=k-VgI4wNyTo
We need to catch up with these people…
