How to Make a Robot - Lesson 1: Getting Started

I want a documentation on creating a wearable which can fly.

@Dimpal SIngh Learning how to create wearable tech is essentially the same as creating a robot. We do not carry any books or articles explaining how to create wearable tech. In regard to learning how to program, we suggest either taking a course (in person or online, paid or free) or purchasing a good book which teaches you the programming language of your choice.

@ Dimpal SIngh Do you mean a wearable product (like a jet pack) which will allow a person to fly?

Yes sir. I wanna create a wearable which allows a person to fly. For example like in IRONMAN movie. But I don’t want to make an IronMan. I just want it to fly like that. Also I know some of programming languages like JAVA, Swift, PHP, C Sharp, C, C++ as I told you that I am a programmer. But I am not aware of programming a microcontroller. So suggest me something in that direction Sir. If you do have a link or tutorial for that Please let me know sir. Is there any course/guide available on coursera.com or udemy.

@Dimpal Singh Aside from just a small handful of inventors and prototypes, a personal (compact) flying system is still incredibly hard to design and build, and is well beyond the scope of these tutorials. This is a very involved project and we do not have any specific suggestions.

OK sir. How different is it from a jet pack sir. What is the difference between a jet pack and the system I am looking for. Sir also tell me about how helpful is it for me in this field if I know programming in various languages already.

@Dimpal SIngh You are looking for something you can wear to help you fly; the Ironman suite is 100% fake. Even if you do not consider the armor and weapons, the technology needed to make a suit fly simply does not yet exist. Programming is not really the issue. We do not mean any disrespect, but asking how to create a suit like Iron Man is similar to asking how to send a man to the moon - there is no simple answer or single resource we can provide.

I understand sir. But you just said about jet pack. What about that sir. And also I don’t mean to create an Ironman suit. I just gave you an example of wearable flying system. I am just looking for a wearable flying system sir. Not for an Ironman suit.

@Dimpal SIngh Unfortunately building any device which can carry a human into the air is well beyond the scope of the support we can provide here.

Ok Sir. Thanks for assisting me. Sir can you tell me what is roll of physics, biology, chemistry and mathematics in robotics. How useful is it to have the knowledge about that?

@Dimpal SIngh It really depends on what you want to do, and how complex you want to get. If you’re really looking to make cutting edge tech, then a formal education will certainly come in useful. Currently robots use less biology, but it’s foreseeable that one day robotics and bionics will be merged. Some background in math and physics is useful, but programming, electrical and mechanical design are more important.

So, do I need to study school level physics and maths only or should I include college/university level physics/math as well.

@Dimpal SIngh Normally you should not need to take too many high level math or physics courses unless you really want to specialize in a certain domain of robotics (for example those working in artificial intelligence don’t really need much background in mechanics). Initially you should try to get a well-rounded education whch covers electronics, mechanics and programming.

ok sir. thanks a lot for guiding me. I will follow your instructions.

can you make robots out of paper that can move

@isabella We do provide this Educational Walking Robot Kit that you assemble using cardboard paper.

Hello…am a nigerian… . Am actually interested in robotics because I want to make a difference here… I have done a lot of model cars and aircrafts in my room… So I need your assistance in learning robotics… So I don’t know if you can really help me… I would be so much glad for your assistance… Thank you so much… .

@Erewumi Oluwagbenga We are doing our best to create free articles here which teach people how to build robots. You might also try letsmakerobots.com

Okay so you mean you can really help me right?

@Erewumi Oluwagbenga We are doing our best to provide free information here on the RobotShop Blog. You can also learn about robotics by purchasing a book etc. Unfortunately we don’t offer personal training.
